Holiday Concert

Hannah participated in her school's Holiday Concert at Buckeye Valley West this past week. The two songs for the second graders this year were "Frosty the Snowman" and "40 Winks". She also enjoyed a relaxing snow day with Dad. Get your white elephants" lined up for our family get-to-gether in a few weeks.

A warm welcome to all Mazanecs for the Black Friday (day-after-Thanksgiving) holiday bash.

As usual, the girls went shopping while they guys watched football. Later, 'the man' showed us her new credentials and the neighbors showed up to join the festivities.

Lee-o-Lantern

Thanks to the carving skills of Terry we had a very nice display of pumpkins this year in Columbus. Terry joined us for some spooky spirits and fun. Notice the fine motor skills used to create the life-like "Lee-o-lantern".

Fish Boil

Have you ever been to a Fish Boil? I never had.

During a week in August I took my team up to Door County, Wisconsin for a strategic retreat. We planned a few activities to balance off the hard work; sailing, wine tour and a Fish Boil.

The Fish Boil is a Scandinavian feast of potatoes, onions and white fish. Yeah, I reacted about the same to the thought of it..... but it turns out better than you think.

The cooking process is what makes it unique. They cook right outside the restaurant where you can watch the entire process. Just mix in the fish, onions, potatoes and that ever popular "pinch" of salt. Wow!! It was tasty.

Next year we head to the Wisconsin Dells for more fun activities.

Working girl

As most of you know I finally took that pesky bar exam! Then I enjoyed two weeks of resting, well actually moving and going to out of town weddings, before starting work last Monday (Aug.13). Unfortunately I came down with strep throat and was very sick all week. I managed to get through the beginning of the week but had to stay home Thursday and go back to urgent care. It was a bad one - I'm still trying to recover!!!

Other than that work is great. I am in the juvenile division (of the prosecutor's office) and spend time in court every day. Most of the time I'm just meeting with opposing counsel and a magistrate or judge for a pre-trial conference (where we try to get a deal worked) but when we can't come to a deal or the defendant refuses to plea we go to trial. I was assigned to my first trial on Monday and it's scheduled for early September, but it will probably be moved due to witness unavailability.

Terry's time with the judge is almost over, as such, they have been working hard to find him full time employment. Terry had an interview last week and has another one tomorrow ... keep your fingers crossed! Maybe his someone will give him a job for his birthday (Aug. 26) !!!!

Dad's day out.

I figured Dad needed a day out yesterday, so I took him to see 'The Bourne Ultimatum" and then had him over for a steak roast. As Doug warned me, Bourne was a little too fast-paced and LOUD for Dad, as he complained afterwards, but he seemed to enjoy the movie while it was running. Ironically he was worried about hearing the movie so we borrowed a special headset from the theater to boost the volume!

He particularly enjoyed just sitting on our patio and talking (of course I was listening) and watching Scruffy play. And he had his first Skype experience when we found Lee online. Dad was absolutely entranced by the ability to see and hear in real-time. We might consider setting him up so he can talk to Scott et al, Tommy, Melanie, etc from time to time.

Golf Today for Lee

I played 18 holes today for the second time in a month, third time in 4 years and fifth time in a decade. Now I know why I have been away. My game is as unpredictable as Forrest Gump's box of chocolates line "you never know what your gonna get".

I played at the Golf Club of Dublin. This course is only a few years old. It has wide fairways and is forgiving off the tee, unless you have the "big banana ball" like I did. The greens are some of the best I have ever played. They are undulating, fast but fair.

I had only two pars and finished with a total of 102. I could easily have dropped 15 strokes off this round if only I had any touch with a sand wedge from inside 50 yards.

My plan is to play more frequently for the social aspect of the game with coworkers and friends. Today I played with a coworker and his Dad and Uncle. Nice foursome. They all shot between 85 and 95.
